Beats Me is NOT an S & M book!

The “BEAT” in this book’s name refers to the fact that my husband, Paul Carroll, was the first, along with his co-editor, Irving Rosenthal, to publish excerpts of W S Burrough’s writing, known as NAKED LUNCH. Also, the first issue of Big Table magazine, which the US Post Office seized in 1959, contained writing by among others, Jack Kerouac. In fact, he, Jack, named the new magazine Big Table after a note he found telling him to get a “bigger table.”

The Post Office lost it’s case, one of attempted censorship, in 1960. I don’t know of many cases of the Post Office attempting to seize books after that.
