Radio Interview, Paul Carroll and Studs Terkel, 1969

POETRY MONTH…APRIL

A very lively exchange between Studs Terkel, pulitzer prize winning author, historian, actor, and broadcaster and Paul Carroll, an American poet and the founder of the Poetry Center of Chicago. Paul reads from his new book Odes and together they discuss the state of poetry in the US, including the poetry of Bob Dylan, Mark Twain, “words jumping like bullfrogs”, Pablo Neruda, and the colorful appearance of hippies he saw in New York.

Paul says “I like what I write.”

This recording was made available by George Drury who worked with Paul Carroll at WFMT radio.
